2/24 Hoffman Estates Park District Secures $600,000 OSLAD Grant for Vogelei Park Renovation Project
2/2/24
Hoffman Estates, IL – The Hoffman Estates Park District (HEParks) is thrilled to share the news of being awarded a prestigious $600,000 Open Space Land Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) Grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. This significant grant, the largest in HEParks’ history, marks a momentous step toward the enhancement of Vogelei Park, a large community park located at the northwest corner of Golf and Higgins roads in Hoffman Estates.
The OSLAD Grant, provided as matching funds, represents a substantial investment in the Vogelei Park renovation project. Prior to applying for the grant, HEParks staff engaged with the community through several meetings. Residents are enthusiastic about the planned new all-inclusive playground and splash pad that will feature a main structure that is accessible for all, including wheelchair accommodation.
While these enhancements encompass a large portion of the project, additional features of the park will continue to prioritize inclusivity while offering new and exciting outdoor sporting options, as well as outdoor educational opportunities, ensuring that Vogelei Park becomes an enjoyable destination for individuals of all abilities.
Additional new features include bank shot sports, multi-golf (disc golf, foot golf and park golf), bocce ball, and fishing and walking. Educational and occupational opportunities will be available through an on-site greenhouse, an outdoor nature classroom and a sensory garden.
The historic Vogelei House, located on the park property, is currently being leased by the Northwest Special Recreation Association (NWSRA), where the organization houses a branch of the PURSUIT program, a day care program for adults with special needs. The future renovations to Vogelei Park will include several features that will benefit these participants, in addition to area residents of all abilities.
“We are honored to receive the $600,000 OSLAD Grant, which serves as a testament to our dedication to enhancing Vogelei Park for the benefit of our residents,” said Executive Director Craig Talsma. “Our community’s input has been invaluable, and we look forward to creating a park that caters to the diverse needs of our residents and the surrounding communities.”
